Description:
Some of the older palm units like Palm V suffer from the "Mad" syndrome problem.
DigiFix has not been able to solve the problem for some units, whereas other software are not free.
DigiE attempts to fix the problem for those units which did not experience success with DigiFix.
Please do give me your feedback.
Preliminary trials on my own faulty unit showed that DigiE works. (DigiFix was unable to fix my problem).

I developed problems with my touchscreen that stopped being fixed with the delivered calibration tool. I was about to do a hard reset, and decided to do some research on the problem on the web. I found DigiE and it resolved my problem immediately. You saved me a lot of big headaches and probably close to $300 if I had to buy a new TX. Thanks

Thanks for writing this program. DigiFix didn't work for me and got into a loop. DigiE didn't do much either, but I think I may have to give it some offset instead of tapping at the centre but I don't know exactly where. Only the top 1/3 of my screen is off like another user, but could someone tell me where I should tap to get DigiE to work? Thank you!

Couldn't recalibrate my E2 until I found this great utility. Thanks a lot.

Thank you! I have had a digitizer problem on my T|E2 for over a year now! the built-in utility just made it worse, and no other utility i tried could fix it, except this one! THANK YOU!

On my PalmVx, this utility 1) didn't solve the MAD issue (I had to start the utility about every day) and 2) would switch the Palm on without my doing anything, draining the battery.

Rescued my Palm which has a screen really out of whack. Other calibrators went into a loop where as this coped. Try before you scrap your Palm. Great app!

Very important "side-effect" of the program was impossibility of turning-off my TungstenT3. When I pressed power button it switched off and kept turning on spontanously after about 5 seconds. No option in Prefs-Power could solve it. The problem had gone away when I moved "DigiE" to SD card. It still works great, but does not affect power options. Suggestion: if your screen is decalibrated only at the bottom, then press precisely the crossed lines of the first screen, and few milimeters above the intersection on the second and third screens. One star less for lack of instruction.

I've noticed my T|T3 digitzer was off. It wasn't as bad, but Palm OS' Digitizer utility in Prefs actually made it worse. After that, it was still usable, but dangerously close to fading. Stylus had to touch the very top of screen to open the menu bar. Had to touch very bottom to tap status bar buttons. This utility fixed it right up. You can even customize the accuracy. For example, if you want the point of contact to register a little lower than where your stylus actually touches, tap a little higher than the crosshair. Great app!!

A year ago I started having problems with digitizer errors, which could not be fixed by recalibration. DigiE fixed the problem in a few seconds. Thank you!

The easiest fix for a vexing problem (drift in the toolbar at the bottem). Back to factory specs in a minute. Amazing.

Thank You!!! Few days ago my T3 started suffering from "Digitizer Drift" the bottom part of the screen was shifted down by about 1/4", I tried a regular recalibration, DigiFix, AutoDigi and finally ran into DigiE, problem solved. As someone already pointed out, once done, move the program to the SD card and you will not incur in the auto-on problem.

My T3 has been driving me crazy, and now it's FINALLY fixed. Thanks so much! FYI to other users: the first time I ran the software I clicked precisely on the crosshairs, and I still had a misconfiguration afterward. So, then I tried deliberately clicking off-centre in the direction and amount that would compensate (i.e., I could see the digitizer was always 3mm off, so I tapped 3mm too high when using DigiE) and that worked.

Fixed my T3 Digitizer problems in about 1 minute flat, including installation. SUPERB. Thanks very much!!

This program is excellent, simple, and effective. I am on my 5th Palm Tungsten T3 and have always been told this is a hardware problem. I just received the last replacement I'll be able to get out of my soon-expiring extended warranty, and although the digitizer appeared to work correctly out of the box it stopped once I restored everything. I cannot figure out which application is causing the problem, but this one FIXED IT. Thanks for writing it!

THIS PROGRAM WORKS , AND IT WORKS WELL....OUTSTANDING.....I USED IT ON MY PLAM IIIxe AND IT FIXED THE "MAD" SYNDROME. However, the IIIxe kept turning its self on. Use the aurthors fix below and the problem goes away.

Fixed my T3's long-standing calibration problem in 2 seconds flat. Great, elegant app. Best freeware I think I've ever found!! One quick recommendation is that the user could use some directions up front. Just a msg. like "Click the crosshairs" or something like that would make the interface much more intuitive. Thanks again!! All best, Ogún Niké

It seems to have worked. To stop the problem with the power on just move the programme to a sd disk - once calibrated the T3 seems to keep the settings.

Thanks! This works fine on my T3, especially if I digitize with full screen enabled. Why Palm didn't do this with their calibration utility is beyond me.

I tried many other apps but nothing worked. My T|T3 was useless until I found Digi-e. Superb.

Hi, this is the author again. Recently the T3 it seems suffer from some digitizer problem also. If you really have to use DigiE to solve your digitizer problem (at least temporarily until you get Palm to exchange the unit for you), try the following : 1. Install DigiE and run it as usual. 2. Perform the calibration. 3. Delete DigiE from your handheld 4. Perform a soft reset. Reports from users at palm user group forums have said that this will allow DigiE to solve the calibration problem, and yet overcome the "Auto-On" bug... My regrets that I have not the time to work on this bug to make it more convenient for everyone...

Hi all. This is for people that neither Digifix or DigiE fix/worked on their Palms (like me), I found a way to "fix" the problem regarding the "Mad Syndrome". Apparently Palm Desktop comes with some updates and some programs that are installed automatically and are the ones causing this problem, is either the updates under "C:\Palm\updates" or the programs under ""C:\Palm\Add-on".
Just complete delete these Folders or move them temporarily to other place outside the Palm Desktop main Folder, DO NOT RENAME THEM, some how HotSync will found them. After that all work fine, the Hotsync, the Pointer, etc.. If you need to install some program, please install them one by one so that way you can "Debug" and identify which program or update is causing the "MAD" syndrome.

Hi, I am the author of DigiE. Several users have highlighted the "auto-off" problem of DigiE. Apparently DigiE wakes up their Palms and does not allow it to stay "off". In view of such, please do not download the app, till I have finished the fix. (Unless of course you need to fix the Mad Digitizer problem desperately. That DigiE works...).

The author may have fixed the bug for auto-off but he has made it auto on. My Palm Vx keeps coming on after 30 seconds (the time i have set for the Palm Vx to be auto off). So, I haven't been able to test his software to fix the Mad Digitizer Syndrome. Hope the author fixes it soon.

The author, Junbin, has recently updated DigiE to fix the auto-off bug, so I revise my previous review back to five stars.
***** [Jan 16, 2003] by _ReD_OcToBeR_
This is definetly better than digifix. However, it disables auto-off on my Prism as well. I had to do a warm reset to make the auto-off work again and then figure out what app was causing this, which was digiE. All in all very nice compact freeware app but with one serious problem.
*** [Jan 15, 2003] by Lucjan Switalski
I give it only 3 stars intead of 5 because this program disables Auto-Off function in my Palmm III xe (OS 3.5.2) so it can not be used safely. Otherwise it is an excelent and very useful application, and I agree, DigiE is better than DigiFix.
